Garou Character Arc
Garou is one of One Punch Mans more popular characters despite him being a so called villain, antagonist, anti hero and much more. Regardless however, he is definitely the character that has seen the most development in this installment of One Punch Man. He has been put in countless situations in which his limits have been tested but he finds a way to surpass his limits every time in the most awesome manner. What remains is to decipher the mind of this anti hero that we see so often on the screen.
Since his debut in season 2 he has impressed greatly all if not most fans and most would say he has stolen the limelight from our beloved One Punch Man. It can be notably observed that we are seeing less and less of Saitama in his own show and while this is not a fan favorite mechanic, it does allow for the introduction and henceforth development of characters like Garou. And sometimes it is nice to just break away from the generic goody two shoes mindset of the average hero. Garou brings something new to the table with his abilities and his resolve. He is always learning from his mistakes and we see his thought process through the entire battle. He fights smart always preparing himself with knowledge and battle strategies to counteract every opponent he faces (except that one time he decided to attack King and Saitama).
In the latest episode he has barely healed when he has to face a full squad of A class heroes and soon after, a fully upgraded S class one. We still don’t know where he stands completely in regard to his morals and his agenda. Is he on the side of the heroes? Or will he become a monster of his own? His moral compass is definitely questioned when he sees fit to murder heroes and hunt them for no apparent reason other than to satiate his lust for power and to see how he stacks against them. But on the other hand he is seen to protect a human child for no apparent reason even to the extent of standing in the crossfire for him. This dual persona surely creates a dilemma for him and us as it proves to make it more difficult to judge him for his actions.
However regarding Garou’s fighting abilities there exists no confusion. His epic display of power and grit are testament to his extreme skill and pure ability that he performs with. Even pushed to his limits he manages to suppress a full squad of 8 A class heroes and soon after holds his own against the newly kitted Genos. His relationship with Tareo gives us a proof of a small sliver of his humanity but to what extent will he let this conscience of his influence his actions? We will have to keep close watch on the upcoming episodes.
